Closed cell spray foam

Closed-Cell Spray Foam For Your Home

For most homeowners, it can be hard to keep their home at a pleasant temperature. These days as energy costs are on the rise. This can make it costly to keep your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Those that live in Michigan can find this an even bigger challenge.  Proper insulation is one of the most useful tools in your battle with changing weather. If you need to insulate your attic or exterior walls of your home, closed-cell spray foam is a safe and durable choice. Our foam insulation experts have the tools needed to install your home’s new insulation with professional results.

What is closed-cell spray foam?

Closed-Cell Spray foam is an insulant that consists of an expanding foam material. In addition to sealing up and reinforcing your walls, this insulant also provides a substantial reduction in energy costs. A single application of this spray foam results in many homeowners experiencing energy savings up to 50 percent off their monthly utility bills.

For our featured closed-cell spray foam, we chose a type that uses renewable oils for the foam and also incorporates recycled plastic bottles. This closed-cell product will not deteriorate, sag, decompose or settle, meaning you can rely on it providing an incredible thermal barrier for the life of your home.

How Does it Work?

As an insulant, Closed-Cell Spray foam works to limit the amount of thermal energy leaving your home. In warmer seasons it helps to keep your interior cool while easing the burden on your A/C. When the outside temperatures drop, it helps trap the warm air your furnace generates. Another benefit of spray foam is the way it air-seals your home. Any small gaps in your home’s insulation can allow for air leakage that damage the efficiency of your thermal barrier, but because this material expands upon application, it will seal off air leaks that loose-fill insulation often misses.

What is the R value of closed-cell spray foam insulation?

Pro Grade Closed-Cell Spray Foam is an excellent option for homeowners looking to increase their home’s R-value while avoiding excessive material usage. This material is denser than our open cell variety and provides a strong vapor barrier which it will protect your attic from mold and mildew. The R-value for closed-cell is between 6 and 7.14 per inch.

What should I expect during installation?

When installed in your attic or wall cavities, the process of having spray foam insulation installed does not take long. However, due to the toxic nature of some of the fumes created while the spray foam is expanding you must leave your home vacant for at least 24 hours from the time our crews finish the installation.

When using closed-cell insulation on exterior walls, it is best to do so during renovation projects or home construction. If the interior walls are closed off on both sides, we will first need to remove sections of the wall. This is due to the nature of the installation methods utilized with closed-cell spray foam.
