What To Expect: Gutter Installation

Even a gutter installation that has been professionally handled by experts using the best materials will eventually begin to fail. When this happens it is important you address the issue before rainwater can cause costly damage to your home’s foundation or landscaping. At Pro, we usually recommend replacement over repair, as repair may save you some money now, but will end up costing you more in the long run. When it comes to gutter replacement you may be wondering, what exactly does it take to install new gutters?

(Continued Below)

Before Install: Full Gutter Inspection

Your current gutters should go through a full gutter inspection before any work is done or agreed on. One of our Pro experts will judge the state of your gutter system from the ground at first before grabbing a ladder to take a closer look at areas that may need more attention.

The goal of an inspection is to give a fair and accurate estimate of your gutter needs. All costs and needs will be included in the estimate, from how many feet of aluminum is needed to the number of downspouts, splash guards, and end caps the job requires. This way the full cost of the job can be in the quote.

6 Phases of Gutter Installation

Removing gutters

Phase 1: Removing the Old Gutters

Once you have picked Pro as your gutter contractor, we will set a start date. On that date, our crew will arrive at your home with all the tools and materials needed to complete the installation. First, our crew will begin by removing all the current gutters and downspouts from your home. Extra care will be taken to ensure no damage is done to your siding, windows, or landscaping. At this time we will also do a secondary inspection to make sure no problems were hiding behind the gutters such as rotting wood.

Measuring eaves

Phase 2: Measuring the Eaves

Once the entire gutter system has been removed our experts will begin measuring the eaves. These measurements will be used when fabricating the seamless gutter runs. Each section will be checked and rechecked to ensure that the gutters we fabricate on site will fit the exact dimensions of your home. This is also when our crew will determine the best spots to place your new downspouts so that your replacement gutters will properly direct water away from the areas of your property where it is unwanted.

Seamless gutters

Phase 3: Fabricating the Seamless Gutters

Using the measurements taken of your eaves our gutter installers will return to their truck and load the aluminum into the gutter fabricator. This step is what sets seamless gutters apart from traditional gutter systems. Rather than piece together pre-fabricated sections of gutter our crew will run a large spool aluminum through a machine that shapes it into gutters and cuts each section when the desired measurement is reached. This way there are no weak spots that need reinforcement along individual gutter runs. As the gutters are being fabricated our experts will punch out the spots where the downspouts will be connected as well as place all required endcaps and miters. After each run has been fabricated fasteners will be used to secure the endcaps, miters, and downspout guides.

Phase 4: Installing the Gutters

With all the gutter runs secured and cut to size, the crew will begin installing your new seamless gutters. They will use forever hangers which are specifically designed for securing gutters. These hangers go in at an angle to give an extremely secure finish to the gutter installation. In fact, they are so strong that they can even support the weight of an adult male! Though we don’t suggest climbing up there and swinging around once we are done. This is also when our terpolymer sealant will be used on all miter joints, end caps, downspout guides, and fastener points. This sealant is specifically designed to adapt with hot and cold temperatures, creating a seal guaranteed to last for decades. Each gutter run will be hung at a slight angle which allows the water to run towards your downspouts, ensuring no water collects inside of your gutters.

Making downspout

Phase 5: Fabricating the Downspouts

With the gutters secure to your eaves it will be time to fabricate and connect the downspouts. These will be cut to size and placed in areas that ensure your gutters properly direct water away from your home.

Phase 6: Cleanup

With the gutters and downspouts secured to your home, our installers will begin cleaning up the area around your home. They will ensure no excess materials are left behind. The goal is to leave your property looking look there never was a crew working on your home.
